The Residential College Symposium (RCS) offers faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to share knowledge, build community, and advance scholarship about the residential college experience.
Washington University in St. Louis is one of the top-20 research institutions in the country. Many students begin their journey in one of the 10 residential colleges located on the “South 40” portion of campus. Here students get to engage with faculty, immerse themselves in the community, and foster positive relationships with their peers. In 2016, Washington University was ranked #2 for Best College Dorms by the Princeton Review as well as earning the 11th spot for Graduation and Retention Rates in the U.S. World Report.
RCS 2017 will focus on:
- the academic foundations shaped by live-in faculty leadership.
- the collaborative partnerships between faculty, academic and student affairs professionals, student leadership opportunities and structures.
- assessment and evaluation of the residential college experience.
These themes might be explored by focusing on a variety of different residential college models, including first-year, honors, and multi-year residential colleges. The symposium will also consider how current priorities in higher education, such as diversity and inclusion initiatives, inform practice and culture in residential college environments.
